Thursdays 7:00 to 8:30 pm
This class is for those who have gained enough experience in the beginner group, or who have taken lessons with Leo or otherwise and feel comfortable with their level. Students should be familiar with both 4/4 and 6/8 rhythms as well as be able to produce advanced drum tones such as the slap.
Intermediate classes will focus on more complex rhythms and techniques. We may try and stick with one rhythm/style per month so that we can learn it in more depth. I hope to have some of the rhythms to be covered in intermediate classes posted on a schedule so people may plan in advance for rhythms/style they particularly want to learn. Many rhythms from Guinea and Mali, as well as some Afro-Cuban or Afro-Haitian will be covered.
New students are asked to join this class only on the first week of any month, and continue thereafter as often as they are able.
All students in the Intermediate group need to have a valid Lesson Punch Card. See the registration page to learn more about punch cards and how to join.
